This lighthouse was built in 1871, and is located on Lizard Point, in Marsden, England, however, it didn't take the Lizard Point name, which was a good thing, considering there is a lighthouse already with the name of Lizard Lighthouse, which is located in Cornwall.
Souter Light was the first lighthouse in the entire world that was actually built for AC, which was produced by a generator. It sent light out as far away as 26 miles. That's a lot of distance, compared to the lighthouses here in the U.S.
Whitburn Steel had over 20 shipwrecks along this particular coastline in just one year, back in 1860, which is the reasoning of why a lighthouse had to built in this location.
In 1988, the lighthouse was decommissioned, and was no longer an aid to navigation. It's now owned by National Trust, and is open to the public.
You can climb the 76 steps of the lighthouse and take a tour for a fee of £5.40 for adults, and £3.15 for children. In U.S. money, that is $8.79 for adults, and $5.13 for children.
"Most Haunted" did a television show on this lighthouse, and it's actually on Youtube, but it's about 45 minutes long, so I'm going to watch it later. Supposedly, this lighthouse was so interesting to live at, that the residents that died, didn't want to leave, so they've returned.
